New details have been revealed about Gladiator 2, after last year, it was announced that Ridley Scott was set to direct a follow-up to his 2000 historical epic, adapting a script written by Peter Craig.
Laurie MacDonald and Walter Parkes revealed at the “Men in Black: International” press tour that the second installment will feature a significant time jump.
The film will be built on a story, which will be picked up around 30 years later… 25 years later from the time of the original.”
Already, much speculation has arisen around the protagonist of the new film. Crowe’s character Maximus (pause here for a 19-year-old spoiler alert) takes his final bow from the gladiator (and earthly) stage.
Though the subject and synopsis of the sequel have not been released yet.
The latest developments would corroborate earlier reports that the story will focus on Lucius, the son of Lucilla and nephew of Commodus, characters played by Connie Nielsen and Joaquin Phoenix in the original.
