Number of coronavirus cases in U.K. now is 51

The number of confirmed cases of the new coronavirus in the UK stood at 51 as off 9am local time.

Britain’s health secretary, Matt Hancock told parliament that although the threat of coronavirus to the UK was “increasingly serious”, the government and the health service were “well prepared”.

He was quoted saying that the “The situation facing the country is increasingly serious. Globally and at home the number of cases continues to rise.”

“As of 9am today there were 51 confirmed cases in the UK and it’s becoming more likely that we will see widespread transmission here in this country.”
