Photo Story – Indonesia’s Police Patrol

Indonesian Military Police Unit on a joint patrol with domesticated elephants at Sampoinet Conservation Response Unit (CRU) in Aceh Jaya District, Aceh, Indonesia, 27 April 2019. The Aceh Natural Resource Agency working together with CRU and Indonesia Military Police agree to hold a joint patrol as a response to avoid an illegal logging and illegal wild lift trade involving of military personnel in Aceh. Domesticated trained elephants used to reduce the conflicts between wild animals and humans in some regions in Aceh. In the CRU the forest rangers and trained elephants called ‘Elephant Cops’ keep wild elephants away from the human settlements.
