28-year-old Michael Emmanuel, an Ivory Coast national, has been arraigned in Court and charged with the murder of his partner Maria Lourdes Agius. She was the mother of six children, including an infant. Michael Emmanuel is also charged with grievously injuring Agius’ mother, a 64-year-old woman, and with falsifying personal documents. Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said that while human life always came first, he would never accept that Malta become a migrant-saving centre in the Mediterranean. The Prime Minister, went on saying that Nationalist Party leader, Adrian Delia went from far-right talk to suggesting Malta should become migrants centre. MaltaTodayNet News quotes a statement by the Nationalist Party in a reply to the comments by the Prime Minister. In its statement the PN said that the Government has no clear and real plan on immigration, and instead is ‘spinning’ and fabricating claims presumably done by the Nationalist Party Leader.

Shift News reports that Occupy Justice activists, who gathered for a vigil to commemorate the 11th month since Daphne Caruana Galizia was murdered said “We are determined to fight for our rights, for a just and equal society, for a real democracy… We will only leave here when justice is done and the truth is known. Only then we can say we are living in a strong democracy. Until then, we’ll be here”.
Speakers pointed out that those who wanted her dead thought that Caruana Galizia’s resilience would die with her, but they were wrong. “We are not scared of your threats and your insults. They only make us stronger. In the end, Malta will win”, they said.
