Trump cancels planned November visit to Ireland

U.S. President Donald Trump has canceled a planned visit to Ireland during a November trip to Europe, Irish media reported on Tuesday.

Reuters said that the Irish Government, said that the planned trip was cancelled citing scheduling issues.

The White House, the Irish Foreign Ministry and the office of Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar all declined immediate comment on reports of the cancellation from Irish state broadcaster RTE and the Irish Independent newspaper.

It remains unclear why exactly the trip has now been called off, however. Initial reports indicated the White House was still determining whether or not the president would visit Ireland as of Tuesday afternoon. The Independent that activists had begun planning massive demonstrations across Ireland for Mr Trump’s arrival, as opposition parties immediately protested the planned trip when it was announced earlier this year.
