UAE announces two-month grace period for holders of expired resident visa

The UAE has announced a two-month grace period for expired residency permit holders to exit the country or change their visa status without fines.

The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs & Port Security (ICP) announced Thursday that “residents in violation of the residency system” will have a two-month grace period to fix their status.

The change will reflect from September 1, 2024.

“During this period, violators can regularize their status or leave the country without incurring fines,” the UAE authority said in a statement.

Currently, the Gulf country offers a one-month period post expiry of the residency visa before a financial penalty is imposed on the visa holder.

Holders of an expired residency permit will bear a $13.6 (AED 50) fine per day of overstay.
