COVID19: #Weapplaud trends in France as population supports healthcare workers
As France edges perilously close to the 8,000th patient mark, placing the health care system under further stress, numerous hashtags have been launched to support professionals working day in day out on the frontline.
The most popular, #OnApplaudit (#WeApplaud) and #TousAlaFenêtre (#AllAtTheWindow) have been taken up by leading institutions, companies, media organisations and French personalities. The general public is joining in with special messages to mark their appreciation.
French MEP Raphael Glucksmann, shared the hashtag, accompanied by the message: “Show gratitude, our admiration and our support to those who brave the danger, the fatigue, the lack of resources to treat us”.
Spain and Italy seem to have been forerunners of this trend, with Italian social media users sharing the hashtag #applauso.
