40% of US under lockdown by tomorrow as WHO sees country as next epicentre

The World Health Organisation indicated the United States as the next big epicenter of the coronavirus epidemic as the North American country experienced a very large acceleration in new cases. More American states have now been ordered into a lockdown, with New Mexico, Washington, West Virginia Louisiana issuing similar orders over the past 24 hours.

By tomorrow, more than 40% of the American population will be covered by such order.

New Mexico Governor Michelle L Grisham insisted that “Right now, every time you leave your house, you are putting yourself, your family and your community at risk.

According to John Hopkins University, so far more than 46,400 have been impacted, resulting in close to 600 deaths.

President Trump, who is facing re-election this year, has indicated his desire that social distancing would be limited to a few days but health sector experts are urging for longer-time frames as health care systems, in cities such as New York City are close to be overwhelmed.
