The Augustinian sisters in Gżira opened a new centre for former students from their schools in Birkirkara and Gżira. The idea came from the teens themselves who wanted to keep in touch with one another and the Augustinian community after their school years.
“Our students receive a lot during their journeys at our schools and now that they are nearing the end of this experience, they became aware that they might lose contact with each other,” explained Sr Rachel Frendo, the Provincial Mother of the Augustinian community.. She said that it was the students’ own wish to keep growing together.
The community of sisters in Gżira converted its basement into a dedicated space to welcome the members of the newly formed group and the centre was officially inaugurated on the 28th of April in a special evening attended by Bishop Joseph Galea Curmi.
The group is already welcoming students who graduated from the school last year and those currently in their final year. Together they organise prayer sessions, discussions, fun events and other activities such as sleepovers.
The members chose to draw inspiration from the life of Jerome Frendo, who died after an exemplary battle with cancer aged 20. A book titled ‘Jerome’, written by Sr. Veronica Gerada and published by Miller Publications, will be available for sale at Agenda Bookshop stores. Proceeds will go towards the Smiling With Jerome foundation.
