Malta’s Newspapers:
The Times says families were evacuated from an apartment block next to construction site in Ħamrun after building walls fell apart. No one was injured, but residents vented their anger and said their frequent reports went ignored. The Story is also reported on the front page of other newspapers, with In-Nazzjon providing a similar angle.
The Malta Independent leads with the suspension of all excavation and demolition works after a second building collapsed in the space of a week. Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said that a public consultation will now follow.
The Times reports that the decision to suspend permits for excavation and demolition came after a meeting by the government with representatives of the construction sector. Government said that new regulations will come into force within the next weeks. This is also reported on the front page of L-Orizzont.
The Malta Independent reveals that the first ward in the Mount Carmel hospital renovation project will open next week. The Ministry for Health announced a €5.6 million refurbishment plan for the hospital in October.
