Brexit Survival kits go to market and are being sold for £300 – Confederation of Paper Industries concerned about impact of no-deal on toilet paper manufacturing

So-called Brexit survival kits costing almost £300 are being sold ahead of the UK leaving the EU.

The packs include enough freeze-dried food to last 30 days, a water filter and fire starting gel. Lynda Mayall, 61, said she bought a box to supplement her stocks of tinned food and toilet roll as she feared there may be “chaos” in the months after Brexit.

Manufacturer Emergency Food Storage said around 600 people have purchased a €331 “Brexit box” since it launched the product in December.

A government spokesperson said there was “no need” to stockpile any of the items in the box.

The box includes 60 freeze-dried meals, 48 portions of meat, a water filter and firestarter. The company said the box has a 25-year lifespan.

Meanwhile the Confederation of Paper Industries says it is concerned about the potential for delays if the UK does not achieve a trade deal over over Brexit.

Guiseppe Munarie is country operations manager with Sofidel, which makes toilet roll for a number of brands.

He has been advised to stock up in production materials – pulp – and in finish product – toilet paper – as industry leaders are concerned about the potential delays at the ports in the event of a no-deal Brexit.
