This year’s Company Law Conference organised annually by the Malta Law Academy, the Chamber of Advocates Academic Foundation, will be held on Wednesday 20th November at the Aula Magna Hall, at the University of Malta’s Valletta Campus.

It will be opened by Dr Peter Fenech, who as President of the Chamber of Advocates shall deliver his traditional policy speech on the future of company law and developments affecting the legal profession.

Dr David Fabri, Senior Visiting Lecturer at the Faculty of Laws, as the organiser of this annual event, will follow with his usual presentation on Recent Corporate Incidents, Cases and Controversies. This shall set the stage for insightful discussions on critical corporate law topics by legal professionals who will share their expertise and practical perspectives on key issues facing the corporate sector.

Speaking about this forthcoming conference, Dr Fabri said “Today more than ever, local businesses, entrepreneurs, and investors operate in a very dynamic environment
which requires practitioners to stay abreast of the constantly evolving corporate law frameworks. Amidst this reality, the Annual Company Law Conference continues to
play a crucial role in providing a critical platform for legal professionals to discuss and update themselves on the latest developments, to ensure they remain updated.”

mergers and acquisitions; Dr Ruth Vella, Senior Manager with PwC will cover the recent Cross-Border Directive and what it means for Malta’s Companies Act; while Dr George Bugeja, Senior Associate at Ganado Advocates will analyse a recent peculiar judgement relating to the winding up of Oversea Companies.

After the coffee break, the conference will continue to examine different contexts and perspectives involving recent EU directives, corporate governance, and the evolving regulatory and compliance environment and its implications for practitioners and businesses.

Dr Anna Maria Zammit, Partner, Valletta Legal will lead an interesting innovative session In conversation with the Registrar, focusing on practitioner concerns and expectations in company governance and administrative requirements. Dr Denia Ellul, Partner at Fenech Fiott Farrugia Legal will explore the EU Directive on Multiple-Vote Share Structures to highlight implications and opportunities for companies. Finally, Dr Jean Noel Cutajar, Chief Legal & Compliance Officer from BNF Bank will examine DORA Preparedness and Compliance, outlining how businesses can navigate the shifting landscape of corporate governance.
