Fire engulfs market buildings in Nigeria’s capital

Market buildings are ablaze in Nigeria’s commercial capital, Lagos, after a massive fire broke out in the centre of the city.

Euronews reports that huge flames and black smoke have engulfed the top section of a building in the popular Balogun Market.

Balogun Market is one of Nigeria’s largest textile markets.

The fire appears to have broken out on Tuesday morning in the upper section of a five-storey complex containing textile business Brasas Fabrics. At least three firefighting vehicles are in attendance, but were reportedly struggling to approach as access to the site was blocked by market stalls.

It is not yet known what caused the fire and there have been no officials reports of injuries or casualties.
