Khalifa Haftar declares ‘no-fly zone’ above Tripoli

Libya’s renegade General Khalifa Haftar has declared a “no-fly zone” in the skies around the Libyan capital, Tripoli, drawing a warning from the country’s internationally recognised government.

The announcement came just after two drones were lost around the capital last week. The Libyan National Army claimed it shot down the Italian drone, whilst the United States military has not provided a motive for the downing of its drone.

In response to the LNA’s declaration, the Tripoli based government warned that threatening civil aviation and airports “amounts to crimes punishable by national and international law”.
