A 30 year old man from Zabbar, who fell ill at the Corradino Correctional Facility, died on Sunday after collapsing in his cell on Saturday.
An official News Release said the the man was given immediate assistance by two officials until the ambulance arrived and transported him to Mater Dei Hospital for observation.
The man was certified dead earlier today.
An ongoing internal investigation is being carried out in accordance with established procedures, and a magisterial inquiry into the case was opened.
