Malta: Economist warns of virus impact on economic performance

L-Orizzont quotes economist Gordon Cordina who described the virus outbreak as a “shock” to economies around the world. He warned that the spread is likely to lead to a global recession that will also affect Malta.

Another story follows the daily Covid-19 briefing by Public Health Superintendent Charmaine Gauci who confirmed the first positive case in Gozo. The source of transmission remains unknown, but authorities suspect that the man got infected at a work meeting.

The paper says that the General Workers Union is insisting with authorities to allow open market traders who sell foodstuffs to remain open throughout the closure of businesses ordered by the government.
